Program your very own little ones with some respect with the new LittleBits Star Wars droid inventor kits.
These are build-your-own Droid sets that allow you to create your own droids and program them to do your bidding. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as building your very own death droid and having him terrorise the people (and pets) around you.
As far as building your little R2-D2 goes, it’s really a lot more simple than you may think. The engine/circuit parts are magnetic, and snap into place easily. Once you’ve followed the simple circuit construction instructions in the box, you can download the LittleBits app (make sure you’ve got room on your phone), and it’ll give you comprehensive instructions from that point forward. The construction ‘tutorial’ is split into four sections, and you get a ‘Mission Complete’ every time you finish one – you wind up feeling like one of Pavlov’s dogs by the end of it, but it’s nevertheless rewarding.
Each step of instructions has a video that shows you which way to hold the parts you’re putting together, that you can pause and restart at any point, and it’s almost impossible to get it wrong. Most of the parts in the central circuit are coloured differently, so you can clearly see which one you should be looking for next, and the video tutorials really are hard to mess up. Everything snaps into place using magnets or just fits so snugly into itself that there’s no need for extra adhesives – everything you need is included in the box.
Once you’ve built your Artoo unit and taken him for a spin, you’re free to do whatever you want. Add stickers to him and make him look super suave. Take your droid apart and use his circuit board in an invention of your own creation – perhaps one made from cardboard? The controls on the app are super simple to use – it’s essentially just a joystick for movement and a couple of buttons for different sounds – and you can even train your bot up to be the best he can possibly be.
With LittleBits Star Wars droid inventor kits, building it is half the fun. Partake in this pastime with your family, and watch the joy on their faces when something you’ve built together comes to life. While they may perhaps be destined to sit on the shelf, at least you’ll get a little extra mileage out of them by building the things first.
