On this day 15 years ago, Halo: Combat Evolved is released into the wild.
The first game in what has now become a hugely successful franchise, Halo CE launches for the original Xbox console on November 15, 2001.
Bungie’s first-person-shooter will go on to become a genre-defining title, with the AI and the player’s regenerating shield system praised as revolutionary.
The Halo series has gone on to be regarded by many as Xbox’s flagship franchise, with Master Chief arguably one of the most recognisable video game protagonists.
Development on the main series of Halo games has now progressed from Bungie to 343 Studios – so named for the lovable 343 Guilty Spark. The next game, Halo Wars 2, will be brought to you by the Creative Assembly.
