Masaya Nakamura reportedly passed away January 22.
Recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun bestowed by the Japanese Government back in 2007, Nakamura is best known as the founder of the Nakamura Amusement Machine Manufacturing Company, or Namco, which then merged with Bandai in 2005.
Namco released many noteworthy arcade games, including Galaxian and Galaga, but none quite compare to the beloved Pac-Man. More than 350,000 Pac-Man arcade cabinets were sold within the first year and a half of release, and the game is still played by many around the world today.
Nakamura was 91 years old.
