And we’re glad we did, but we never want to again.
Nosulus Rift is Ubisoft’s venture into the wearable market, introducing a type of mask to accompany their release of South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
We thought it was only going to be at Gamescom. We were wrong.
Earlier this week we attended JB Hi-Fi’s yearly games manager conference, and were privileged (?) enough to go hands-on with the tech. It’s safe to say it left a pretty bad taste in our mouth.
To ease us into the process, the Ubisoft staff decided we would first, uh, use the facilities, to give us an idea of what to expect.
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, the Nosulus Rift was engineered to give you the complete South Park experience, farts and all, by letting you smell what it’s like to be in the game. Trust us when we say it was unpleasant. Ever been in a public toilet? It was way worse.
We were even almost tricked (“If you press square it smells like roses! Just kidding – it’s a South Park game, after all”) into inhaling more than the recommended dose, but having tried it at least now we can say that we hope this doesn’t get a retail release. The Ubi team had a couple of cans of air freshener on hand “just in case”, and that pretty much sums up the whole bad-smelling experience.
