Dolby Atmos has been the biggest and best thing in cinema audio for a while, and now it’s expanding to music production.
For the uninitiated, Atmos – as installed in most cinemas nowadays – immerses listeners in a kind of sound bubble. Rather than just having speakers firing sound to the front, sides and back, it also sends it downwards (or upwards to bounce off the ceiling in some home setups). This means that parts of a soundscape can be controlled individually – things like a helicopter shooming right over your head, weather effects and a whole lot more
The video below is aimed at music producers, introducing the Dolby Atmos Production Suite, but if you’re at all curious about how Atmos works, it’s quite the fascinating watch.
