The new range of Galaxy devices from Samsung has been unveiled, giving us a huge selection of wild tech to add to our want lists.
In their Galaxy Unpacked virtual event, Samsung introduced the new Galaxy foldable range, featuring the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, as well as new Galaxy wearables in the form of the Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic and Galaxy Buds2.
All of this new gear will be available from September 10, with pre-orders open now.
The new foldable range incorporates key improvements, including – for the first time ever on a foldable smartphone – IPX84 water resistance. Both devices are also built with an “Armour Aluminium” frame and hinge cover. It’s the strongest aluminium ever used on Galaxy smartphones which, coupled with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 5 cover screen, makes them the toughest Galaxy phones yet. Samsung claim that the main screen is 80 per cent more durable than previous devices.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 5G also offers S Pen stylus compatibility and a long-lasting 4,400mAh battery to power the full front 6.2-inch display and folding inner 7.6-inch display. Inside there’s the fastest chip yet in a Galaxy, the Snapdragon 888, while outside there’s a hands-free 12MP Triple rear plus 10MP cover camera, designed to allow the taking of photos and videos from angles that other smartphones can’t.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is a full screen phone that folds, making it perfectly pocket or small bag sized. Also boasting Gorilla Glass and Armour Aluminium on the frame and hinge cover, it too features IPX8 rated water protection.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 has a larger cover screen (1.9 inches) than its predecessor, allowing you to see more of your messages and notifications at a glance, while the main screen comes in at a whopping 6.7 inches. The hands-free camera setup (12MP dual rear + 10MP front) is up for everything from selfies to chat to taking shots to cherish forever, while inside there’s the super-speedy SnapDragon 888 keeping things running smoothly. Add Dolby Atmos stereo speakers and this is one seriously desirable smartphone.
The completely redesigned new Galaxy Watch4 comes in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm – and a choice of black, green, gold or silver (depending upon size), while the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes in at 42mm or 46mm, in black or silver.
Both are the first smartwatches to feature new Wear OS, which was built jointly by Samsung and Google, and are equipped with One UI Watch, which Samsung claim is their most intuitive user interface yet. Wellness options are at the fore, with several tools for health management. The new three-in-one BioActive Sensor allows users to monitor their heart rate, blood oxygen level and also calculate body composition. They also do a brilliant job of telling the time!
Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds2 – their smallest and lightest yet – have been designed be worn comfortably all day, providing amazing sound all the way with your Galaxy smartphone, tablet or smartwatch.
They boast dynamic two-way speakers with deep bass, while Active Noise Cancellation helps block out unwanted sound, with three adjustable ambient sound levels if you need to know what’s going on around you. For calls, a new machine learning-based solution has been designed to filter out all sorts of distracting background noises. The Galaxy Buds2 offer four colour choices – graphite, white, olive and lavender.
