Buying a set of earbuds can be a minefield of weighing up this feature against that feature. With their Elite 3, Jabra aim to keep it simple by delivering what’s needed for great sound – with a few niceties too.

With their cutting edge design, these sixth-generation true wireless earbuds look good – which is always nice, though not the most important reason for buying – but they back it up with the critical stuff, as they’re also light and comfortable, plus they perform exceptionally well.

Each bud features a 6mm speaker to deliver clear, rich sound and, best of all for many, punchy bass – something that some earbuds can lack. Even at volumes beyond wise – for testing reasons only, of course – we were surprised at the level of bass without things distorting. Sound can also be tailored further via presets in Jabra’s very handy Sound+ app.

A built-in four-microphone setup – yes, in these tiny things – is perfect for phone conversations, even if you’re out exercising, and we found them to deliver excellent call quality.

The basic functionality ticks the boxes, but Jabra haven’t skimped on useful additions. A technology called HearThrough, which uses the in-built microphones, allows users to clearly hear what’s going on around them right in their ears with a simple tap on the earbud. Sometimes it’s smart to keep an ear out for what’s going on, especially if you’re out walking. However, when you do want to shut out the world, the Elite 3 deliver fairly effective noise isolation, despite not featuring an active noise cancellation functionality.

The left and right earbuds each have different controls, with one, two or three presses performing various functions such as play, skipping forward or backwards and enabling phone mode.

Bells and whistles include built-in Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri compatibility, plus one-touch Spotify playback. They also work witho Google Fast Pair, so you can do Google-like stuff such as asking for directions and, of course, playing your favourite bangers.

They’re built solidly, too. We put the Elite 3 through our general day-to-day ringer and were impressed by how durable these earbuds are – they didn’t miss a beat (literally!). Plus, they’re rated IP55 for protection against the elements such as rainstorms – and sweatiness!

Offering a respectable battery life of around seven hours of battery charge in the earbuds, plus a further 28 hours with the cool-looking case, the Jabra 3 Elite are likely to stay up longer than you are. You can also enter “mono mode”, a tag team-like system whereby you can hear everything mixed down to a solo earbud and let the other one charge.

Packaged with three pairs of different sized eartips so as there’s a fit for pretty much anybody’s ears, they also come packaged with a USB-C to USB-A charging cable for the case.

If you’ve been looking out for great sonic performance from an affordable pair of earbuds, then you should definitely check out the Jabra Elite 3.
