Long battery life, convenient features and a sleek design – what’s not to like about the Logitech MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard?!
Wireless keyboards are very handy – why be tied down to something wired when you can grab it and type on your knee, sitting on the couch, in bed or wherever? But, of course, any wireless device has to be reliable and, with its choice of Bluetooth or USB 2.4GHz connection, in our experience the MX Keys certainly passes that test.
This ease of use also means that you can hook the MX Keys up to as many as three different devices – just press a button and you can swap between, for example, your notebook, tablet and phone. They can even be different systems, with support for WIndows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android.
The typing itself happens via whisper-quiet keys that give the feeling of being built to last. The unit itself is built upon a single metal plate, and once adapting to the contoured keys you’ll be up to your maximum typing speed in no time at all. This stability also comes in handy when using the keyboard on a desk, as it gives the MX Keys enough heft that it stays put, rather than flitting all over your desktop. There’s also a built-in ability to have the keyboard tilt towards you slightly with the flip of a small stand.
A very cool feature is the backlighting. Absolutely vital for nay good keyboard in our opinion, to save power the lighting turns off on the MX keys when you’re not using it, but springs into life as your hands approach the keyboard. Lights go on, lights go off, lights go on, lights go off…
The strength of illumination can be automatically set to suit surrounds by the keyboard, or if you have a nailed down preference you can set it to the brightness that you wish.
Being wireless means, of course, the need for charging. While the MX Keys offers an impressive ten days or so of use on one charge with backlighting, and up to five months (!) without the lighting, you can easily connect a USB-C cable to juice it up on the go if need be, or just leave it to charge overnight or while you’re doing other things.
If you’re after a premium, full-sized keyboard experience without all the bells and whistles of a gaming keyboard, or you prefer a more notebook-styled arrangement than your classic long-throw, clacky keys, then it’s definitely worth checking out the Logitech MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard. It really looks the goods, has practical features, and won’t break the budget.
