Nanoleaf’s lighting panels are bursting with possibilities, but some people may have a more natural environment in which bright white panels don’t really sit well. Enter the Elements Wood Look range, offering a more natural smart lighting solution.
When turned off, these panels blend effortlessly into any more natural, rustic environment. Turn them on though and the fun really begins, offering light show magic akin to those classic white Nanoleaf panels, but with a more natural palette to play with.
Like their siblings – check out our play with the Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons here – the starter kit comes with enough panels and bits and bobs to get an impressive lighting display happening in surprisingly little time. Your biggest challenge is deciding what pattern you’d like to make. We’re a sucker for the classic daisy, but you can connect them together in a line, or in pretty much any configuration that you can come up with. Short on inspiration ? A quick web search should give you plenty of food for thought.
If the seven supplied panels aren’t enough, good news is that designs are expendable three panels at a time via a handy expansion pack, which comes with all the bits needed to bump you up to 10, 13, 16…
The full contents of the Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look Starter Kit amounts to seven woodgrain hexagon panels, a controller unit, eight linker pins, a power supply and a matching set of rotatable snap-on mounts and removable sticky pads.
As with most smart lighting, your smartphone is your friend when it comes to setup of your new lighting feature. Simply pair the Nanoleaf panels with your Wi-Fi (2.4Ghz) and get to connecting the panels together in your desired layout – we recommend a practice run and test – then clean the space properly (isopropyl alcohol is always good for this) and start sticking up panels. One tip is to carefully plan where the controller unit will attach to your pattern, as there is a power cable to hide as best as possible (it can be snaked underneath the panel design if required, but will have to emerge somewhere).
Once installed the fun begins. Obviously, considering its general organic look and feel, it’s natural light shows that the Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look panels excel at. From sunrises/sunsets to a fab crackling fireplace look, there are plenty of preset patterns to explore, and you can also come up with your own and save them via the app.
After you have a favoured setting, one of the many beauties of Nanoleaf products is that they’re integrated with Google Assistant, Alexa, Apple HomeKit, IFTTT and SmartThings. Have some fun with naming your Nanoleaf and you could be quipping, “Hey Google, turn on the fireplace”, even if you’re in a shiny new flat where the thought of any form of actual open fire is a completely frightening prospect.
If rustic decor is your thing, but you’d still like to get with the smart lighting crowd, there’s likely no better place to start than with Nanoleaf Element Wood Look panels.
The Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look Starter Kit and three panel expansion are both available now at JB Hi-Fi.
