If you’re using a monitor in your computer setup then you’ll almost certainly find a monitor stand is a big plus. Your posture will likely be one of the first to say “thank you”.

However, all monitor stands aren’t created equal, nor do they all look good while they hoist your monitor towards eye level.

Many stands are just that – they do the lift, and may offer some extra storage space by way of a shelf, or just the handy void left beneath them. But that’s it. Satechi have gone one better with their call-it-what-it-is Aluminium Monitor Stand Hub for iMac though, by adding some very useful functionality to a monitor stand that only takes up a tiny 21.5 x 21.5cm desk footprint.

“While many may get a standard stand then jam a USB hub somewhere beneath it, this handy piece of kit combines the two into one very neat, very snazzy-looking setup.”

While many may get a standard stand then jam a USB hub somewhere beneath it, this handy piece of kit combines the two into one very neat, very snazzy-looking setup. Right up front there are three USB 3.0 ports and one USB-C port, all capable of speedy 5 Gbps transfer speeds, along with always-useful SD and Micro SD slots, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Why faff around at the back of your computer trying to find ports when you can have what you need right up front where you need it?

It all connects by one clever USB cable that lives neatly snaked up against the underneath of the stand’s top, able to be pulled out to whatever length is required in order to connect to a single USB port on your computer. Obviously that’ll need to be a 3.0 port in order for the Satechi hub to work at that speed – it’s good, but it’s not magical! There’s even a handy USB-C to USB-A adaptor included in the package if it’s needed for connection.

Satechi Aluminium Monitor Stand Hub for iMac

You may have noticed that we keep saying “computer” instead of “iMac”. While this sleek stand is aimed at the iMac crowd, and is designed to fit one like a tailored glove, there’s no reason why you couldn’t pop any other sort of monitor for a Windows box or suchlike on it, as long as it clocks in at under 22kg – which is a pretty hefty monitor.

Between PC design and peripheral design, the days of having a drab looking computer setup are, mercifully, long behind us. If you’re after a super handy, super space-saving “twofer” of stand and USB hub then the Satechi Aluminium Monitor Stand Hub is a hard act to top.
