A list of the most influential guitarists in history would include BB King’s name near the top. Since his death in 2015 at the age of 89, his band – some who’d backed him on stage for 35 years – started playing some festivals.
Now comes a new album of BB King’s best known songs featuring eight of the great man’s former band members, and young guitarist/singer Michael Lee (who features on The Thrill Is Gone, the song he performed on The Voice). Other guests include singer/guitarists Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Taj Mahal, Kenny Neal and Joe Louis Walker who provides lead vocals and guitar on his Regal Blues (A Tribute To The King). While the legendary maestro can never be replaced, his spirit lives on thanks to these wonderful musicians.
The Soul Of The King by The BB King Blues Band is out now via Only Blues.
