Feelings is lush. With all the layering and overdubs, it feels a million miles from the scrappy upstarts that once covered the Spider-Man theme song and traded in bratty blasts like 2012’s All The Things You Say Are Wrong.
Those tracks were perfectly of the time, but this new material reflects growth during the years they spent incommunicado. The backbone is still pure power-pop-punk – twisting a cheerleader chant into a hook on Step Back, getting all bright and bouncy on Part Of Me – but the dreamy quality reflects a record that gets plenty introspective.
There was a time Bloods seemed defunct, but they’re back, full grown, and full of grit.
Feelings is out August 17 on vinyl and CD via Sub Pop.
