Bryan Adams has perfected the popstar-as-paternal-figure pose, sounding on his 14th album like your dad selling you on how much he really, really loves his new girlfriend.
And you know what? It’s damn convincing. Adams knows how to pull tens of thousands of heartstrings simultaneously, now several decades into arena stadium tours. So for all its late-career polish, Shine A Light is still genuinely moving. Whether it’s the chugging riffs and piano of classic rock’n’roll (Driving Under The Influence of Love), or Adams’s knack for driving jams (Part Friday Night Part Sunday Morning, All Or Nothing), Shine A Light has plenty for old heads and new fans alike.
Shine A Light is out March 1 via Warner.
