Still backboned by lashes of fuzz and hyperkinetic drums from the first second, Young Enough is both more muscular and more sensitive. Soaring rock ballads abound, sounding stadium-huge with feeling and revealing new dimensions to Eva Hendricks’s voice. Amidst the ecstatic choruses, Young Enough is plenty dark: much of the record deals with an abusive relationship, cycling through the denial, anger, addiction, and rejuvenating moments of clarity. Done with the quirky freedom from care on Guppy, Young Enough is newly serious, and seriously compelling.
Young Enough is out May 10 via Pod/Inertia.
