CLOWNS once again prove that they cannot be pushed into one genre. The band’s fourth album Nature/Nurture slings furiously through punk, garage, and psych rock, and just when you think you’ve heard it all, closing track Nurture dips its toes into Mediterranean waters and rounds out the record with a sitar solo.
While the band have always been underground favourites in Melbourne and the broader punk scene, their once fluid lineup has settled, aiding to release their strongest record yet.
Nature/Nurture builds confidently on the strong foundations the act have developed over their past three albums, but especially from their most recent release to now, 2017’s Lucid Again. Bland Is the New Black screeches out of the starting gates, the sneering Prick rips into those musicians you loved before you met them, and I Wanna Feel Again builds to feverish climax over vocalist Stevie Williams’ discourse – the starring centrepiece of the album.
Nature/Nurture is out April 12 via Damaged/Caroline.
