In 2007, frustrated with the emergence of MP3 technology in terms of the decline in the personal connection between the artist and the listener, Elvis Costello declared that he had probably recorded his last album.
He did, however, continue to write, mostly for two theatrical projects and a movie that never saw the light of day. Enter Steve Nieve and Pete Thomas, long-time members of Costello’s band The Attractions, who convinced their boss to fashion an album from these unfinished songs, some co-written with Burt Bacharach and Carole King.
The result is one of Costello’s strongest releases, full of dazzling tunes that showcase sensitive, cinematic themes masterfully interpreted by this great artist and his more than supportive musicians.
