With a tracklisting that will immediately conjure memories of mid-noughties dance floors and festival singalongs, this compilation bursts through the saloon doors with the group’s first ever single, Darts of Pleasure (a song which quickly asserts singer Alex Kapranos’ endearing charm).
Track two completes the double-punch (break-out mega-hit Take Me Out), and then we’re hooning through an alarmingly brilliant string of smashes: the drunken drawl of Do You Want To (from 2005’s You Could Have It So Much Better), the sauntering and bratty Ulysses (from 2009’s Tonight: Franz Ferdinand), the slashy jam Always Ascending (from their last album, 2017’s Always Ascending) and a whole slew of old favourites in between.
We also get two new tracks, including the stomping Billy Goodbye, an exciting taste of what may be to come.
Hits to the Head is ultimately a testament to the enduring energy of Franz Ferdinand, as well as a reminder of their faultless consistency.
Hits to the Head by Franz Ferdinand is out now via Domino.
