hollywood vampires rise album coverRise starts as if the opening track’s finishing (are Hollywood Vampires punking us?) before ramping up like a goth Veruca Salt (“I want a diamond selfie stick!”).

This trio comprising Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry have clout. Add two aces from Coop’s band – Tommy Henriksen and Glen Sobel – and Bruce Witkin (Adam Ant’s band), plus a Jeff Beck and John Waters feature and this supergroup’s second album sizzles.

There’s T. Rex beats, wacky skits and covers of songs by gone-too-soon artists: Bowie’s Heroes (although brazen, Depp nails it), Jim Carroll Band’s People Who Died and Johnny Thunders’ You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory (ably sung by Joe Perry). Definitely does not suck.

Rise by Hollywood Vampires is out June 21 via Sony.
