Missy Higgins’ career hasn’t been long – it’s just 15 years since her first release – but her body of work, as exhibited on this first best-of, shows that she might be the finest female singer-songwriter Australia has produced.
A fast follow-up to this year’s awkwardly titled Solastalgia, this collection digs out the original demo of All For Believing, which saw Higgins Unearthed by Triple J, and then gathers tracks from five studio albums (including covers of Perry Keyes’ NYE and The Drones’ Shark Fin Blues from the Oz album), plus two fine new songs – Arrows and Run So Fast – and a live cover of Throw Your Arms Around Me. Special, indeed.
The Special Ones is out now via Eleven/EMI.
