Polish Club album cover IguanaTwo years ago, Sydney duo Polish Club invited us to come party. It was an invitation too good to refuse.

The good times continue on their second album, which is named after a Kings Cross bar. Singer David Novak provides the review in the album’s opening lines: “Thirteen dumb ideas, fourteen golden hits.” There are only a dozen tracks, but you get the idea.

That’s not to say that the Polish Club sound is simply big and dumb. Iguana is the soundtrack to a great night out, where you don’t know what’s coming next. They even surprise with a sensitive ballad, As Low As It Goes. The result is a record that’s gloriously retro – and right now.

Iguana is out June 7 via Island/Universal.
