With none other than St Vincent at the helm of production, tracks such as Hurry on Home and Can I Go On are bold statements, with a synth addition revitalising the band’s well-honed rock hooks. A track like Restless, however, would be perfectly at home on the band’s 2005 album The Woods. Perhaps the most pivotal cut is the album’s title track, a direct response to the Trump administration led by Corin Tucker’s distinctive cry.
Sleater-Kinney may be almost three decades into their career, but this record is all the proof you need to see that they’re still as vital as ever.
The Center Won’t Hold by Sleater-Kinney is out August 16 via Milk!/Remote Control.
