Steve Earle GuyAs a 19-year-old Steve Earle found himself in Nashville, and within months he was playing bass in Guy Clark’s band.

Clark became an incredible influence on the young Earle, and 45 years later, the latter pays tribute to the masterful songwriting and storytelling of his mentor (something he couldn’t get out of after paying homage to his other songwriting mentor, Townes Van Zandt, with the album Townes 10 years ago). Joining him and his band The Dukes are other Clark admirers and friends Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Mickey Raphael among others.

Pretty much recorded live and with heartfelt respect, no other interpreter could give you Clark better than Earle.

Guy is out March 29 via New West.
