Sky Blue is a collection of unreleased songs recorded 46 years ago in the home studio of good friend, musician and journalist Bill Hedgepeth, and are now released for the first time. Fresh, familiar and intimate, these are early drafts of old favourites, a couple of covers, and the bonus of two unheard songs. Time hasn’t faded or aged Van Zandt’s magical songwriting and the charm of his vocals. Take it from Steve Earle: “Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” What more is there to say?
Sky Blue is out March 8 via Inertia.
