Yolanda Ingley’s emergence as a major singer-songwriter took place in 2016 with the release of her debut album This Dangerous Age, which combined insightful, intelligent lyrics with flavours of jazz, blues, R&B and folk.
What’s extraordinary is that she had only started writing songs a year before the album was released.
Her follow-up, produced by Sam Teskey (who contributes guitar in tandem with Monica Weightman), showcases Yolanda’s soulful, expressive singing on a bunch of songs that benefit from varied, creative arrangements which allow space for Steve Dagg’s Lester Young-inspired tenor sax solos to shine.
An outstanding release.
