The lead spots in the Australian iteration of Green Day’s hugely acclaimed musical American Idiot have been announced, and it’s a shared affair between two of our most cherished rock stars.
The Living End’s Chris Cheney and Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson will be splitting the role of St Jimmy in the run of live performances, with Cheney taking the reigns for performances February 23 – 26, and Jamieson taking over from February 28th.
The story follows three childhood pals “searching for meaning in a post-9/11 world”, and features Green Day’s music (including every song from their 2004 album American Idiot) as well as lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s lyrics. The production has already enjoyed highly successful runs across the UK, Europe, Japan and the US, receiving two Tony Awards and the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
The Australian iteration is showing exclusively in Brisbane; you can read more and get tickets here.
