The snarl of the Sex Pistols, the politics of The Clash, the pointy goth edges of The Damned – all these and more aren’t featured on Punk.

Yeah!

But don’t despair, dear music lover, for such noted punk luminaries as Huey Lewis (and, of course, the News), Men at Work, Erasure and, of course, Crowded House do feature on this TV-only 36-track compilation, simply (and let’s face it, completely ineptly) entitled Punk.

Yeah!

As this compilation attests, so many Americans just didn’t “get” punk, lumping it in the exact same basket as anything even vaguely new wave – like Toni Basil, or Human League’s utterly dreadful Human (although, perhaps ironically, originally – we’re talking pre-Phil Oakey – Human League were one of the punkiest of the lot here).

Yeah!

While the selection via dartboard nature of this compilation is hilarious in itself – again, only due to it being named Punk – it’s the two stars of the ad (and their shocking wigs) that push this into champagne comedy territory.

Yeah!

Yo, check it out…

We checked, and not surprisingly this totally desirable piece of punk history isn’t available anymore. Aww… However, there are some brilliant 1980s new wave and general pop compilations available right now at JB Hi-Fi – although not on double cassette. Sorry.

Yeah!
