BIGSOUND logoBIGSOUND – Australia’s festival/conference knees-up to celebrate the best in new, homegrown music – will be upon us in QLD’s Fortitude Valley from September 3-6, 2019. In the lead-up, we’re putting a few questions to the most promising names who’ll be performing. Click here to see more chats with the acts we think will own this year’s BIGSOUND!

Simmering with King Krule-style swagger and an adventurous, experimental approach, Perth six-piece Butter can jazz any dish up into a super smooth treat.

What sets your music apart?

One thing we don’t do is approach songwriting with the idea of our next song sounding cohesive with the last. Our process changes constantly, while we all continuously bring in new influences and ideas to the mix from our different tastes, and love for the multitude of great music being produced right now in Australia and the world.

Which movie scene would your latest single suit?

Our newest single Gum is about exploring the world of clubbing as you grow up a little, and realising that maybe you don’t really like it even though you feel like you’re supposed too. The club scene in Trainspotting would suit it perfectly, where Renton is feeling out of place himself and says: “The world is changing, music is changing, drugs are changing, even men and women are changing.”

Give us your best useless fact – about yourself, or the world.

Butter the band also shares its name with a popular dairy spread.

What can we expect from you at BIGSOUND?

Big breakfast energy, the occasional monologue and maybe one Simpsons reference.

Which BIGSOUND acts are you looking forward to seeing?

Heaps! First Beige, Pinch Points, Raj Mahal, SUPEREGO, Milan Ring, Mojo Juju, Noah Dillon, Jack Davies, Spacey Jane. There’s a whole lot more we haven’t seen before and we’ll be doing our best to catch the rest. Please recommend us some more!

What should we look out for on your post-BIGSOUND horizon?

Fashion/Design/Merch!?! An EP accompanied by more east coast tours, shortly followed by new sounds and even bigger breakfast energy. (Also, more Simpsons references.)

Butter play Family on Tues Sep 3 at 11.20pm, and The Brightside on Wed Sep 4 at 9.50pm.
