BIGSOUND logoBIGSOUND – Australia’s festival/conference knees-up to celebrate the best in new, homegrown music – will be upon us in QLD’s Fortitude Valley from September 3-6, 2019. In the lead-up, we’re putting a few questions to the most promising names who’ll be performing. Click here to see more chats with the acts we think will own this year’s BIGSOUND!

FRITZ is the sonic project of Tilly Murphy, who has amassed herself a big ol’ basket of fans due to her chuggy dream-pop stylings and adorable on-stage chit-chat. She’s completed supporting runs with homegrown acts (and BIGSOUND albumni) Cub Sport, WAAX and Middle Kids, and recently chalked up a well-received appearance at SXSW ’19.

What sets your music apart?

It’s never just one genre and it can sound very different depending what mood you’re in. It’s all about emotions, textures and sounds rather than solid meaning. You can dance to it and you can cry to it or you can do both at once.

Which movie scene would your latest single suit?

The song has kind of got a new years vibe to it so unfortunately all I can think about is the opening scene of High School Musical 1, where Troy and Gabriella sing that song and there’s fireworks… I now need to rewatch that and hear my song over the top – I think it would work perfectly!

Give us your best useless fact – about yourself, or the world.

November 14th is National Pickle Day.

What can we expect from you at BIGSOUND?

I don’t even know what to expect… It could get messy… Maybe I’ll wear a clown costume for one show.

Which BIGSOUND acts are you looking forward to seeing?

Yergurl and GAUCI!

What should we look out for on your post-BIGSOUND horizon?

New music! More shows? A tour maybe? Definitely new music and many more exciting shows. Also perhaps a new haircut… and maybe I’ll have one of those teacup pigs and carry it around with me in my handbag…

teacup piggie

FRITZ plays The Zoo on Tues Sep 3 at 8.50pm, and the Social Hub @ X Cargo on Wed Sep 4 at 8pm.
