BIGSOUND logoBIGSOUND – Australia’s festival/conference knees-up to celebrate the best in new, homegrown music – will be upon us in QLD’s Fortitude Valley from September 3-6, 2019. In the lead-up, we’re putting a few questions to the most promising names who’ll be performing. Click here to see more chats with the acts we think will own this year’s BIGSOUND!

The mesmerising, unabashed sincerity of Greta Stanley has seen her fanbase quickly burgeon over the last few months alongside festival appearances; prepare yourself for superlative songwriting and a moving live presence.

What sets your music apart?

I’ve never really thought about that; I guess I’m not intentionally trying to be something that’s different, but I’m not trying to be the same either. I just create what feels right in the moment, and try to be honest and true to myself.

Which movie scene would your latest single suit?

This is a difficult one to answer, as I don’t write with movies in mind or anything like that. But I was very fortunate with my latest single Pour to have a very talented young director named Brendan Schoenmaker approach me with his own vision for the song – which he executed so beautifully.

Give us your best useless fact – about yourself, or the world.

When I was younger I taught myself how to speak everything backwards. I got really good at it for a little while.

What can we expect from you at BIGSOUND?

Brand new music from my very recent EP Sun In My Eyes – new sounds, a full band, hopefully something that resonates, and terrible dancing from yours truly.

Which BIGSOUND acts are you looking forward to seeing?

DVNA, Jack Davies & The Bush Chooks, Ruby Gilbert, Nancie Schipper. I’m sure there’s a lot more!

What should we look out for on your post-BIGSOUND horizon?

I have a tour in September with the lovely Emma Louise, and a headline tour in November! I hope to work on new music soon too.

Greta Stanley plays the Black Bear Lodge on Tues Sep 3.
