The ‘Aussie SXSW’ – also known as BIGSOUND – is upon us in QLD’s Fortitude Valley from September 4-7, 2018. In the lead-up, we’re taking a look at some of the most promising names who’ll be appearing at the conference and festival.
You may already know West Australian Kaitlin Keegan as the axe-wielding guitarist in indie-punk band Boat Show, but Keegan has also been dipping her toes into the solo world, mixing her delicate voice with relatable themes and a distinct hint of Australiana.
What sets your music apart?
I think that my music is often quite honest and reflective of things that have happened and affected me in real life. There are themes and topics that people can relate to, and I think that sets my music apart.
Which movie scene would your latest single suit?
I think my song Emma would do really well in an episode of Shameless.
Give us your best useless fact.
People with ginger hair need 20% more anaesthetic than people with dark or blonde hair. First discovered this when I was getting four teeth pulled out… ouch.
What can we expect from you at BIGSOUND next month?
I’m so excited for BIGSOUND! I’m looking forward to my showcases and meeting lots of people! I’ve got some new material that I’m excited to share with everyone too.
Which BIGSOUND acts are you looking forward to seeing?
KAIIT. What a voice! I’ve never seen her play live so really looking forward to that! (Our names are kind of similar too, so that’s cute.)
What are you working on at the moment? Plans for the near future?
I’ve just been writing as much music as I can; I’ve been collaborating a fair bit and really finding my sound. I’m excited to share heaps of new music in the very near future.
For fans of: Stella Donnelly, Didirri, Carla Geneve.
Kaitlin Keegan plays Ric’s Backyard on Tuesday Sept 4, and Press Club on Thursday Sept 6.
