The ‘Aussie SXSW’ – also known as BIGSOUND – is upon us in QLD’s Fortitude Valley from September 4-7. In the lead-up, we’re taking a look at some of the most promising names who’ll be appearing at the conference and festival.
Brisbane locals Stateside are in a transition period; imminent studio time to follow up their Naïve EP and looming support slots with Neck Deep have fans champing at the bit. We caught up with frontwoman Erin Reus.
What sets your music apart?
Our Naïve EP was a blend of all things we considered to be our favourite parts of music, and we’re very proud of it! Our new music however is slightly different; it’s shaping up to be a bit boppier, and more fun.
Which movie scene would your latest single suit?
Our latest single Neon has this really poppy, vocal-driven chorus that we think would suit a montage in those classic American coming-of-age movies where the main character is working out to be the best they can (so basically like Rocky).
Give us your best useless fact.
Fresh water fish don’t drink water, but salt water fish do. (?!)
What can we expect from you at BIGSOUND next month?
We’re hoping to put on an entertaining, enjoyable show that really showcases what we’ve learned in the past few years, as well as bring out some of those funky fresh tunes I was talking about earlier!
Which BIGSOUND acts are you looking forward to seeing?
What are you working on at the moment? Plans for the near future?
At the moment we’re setting out the next six months or so for ourselves. We hit the studio in September, and will be racking up some music videos after that. Then in November/December we hit the road with pop-punk legends Neck Deep ,alongside Between You & Me and Stand Atlantic. Very, very excited to show you guys the new, crazy-town funk-fest that is 2018 Stateside.
For fans of: PVRIS, Tonight Alive, The Amity Affliction.
Stateside play The Brightside, on Tuesday Sept 4 and Crowbar on Wednesday Sept 5.
