Ahead of the release of High As Hope – the fourth album from Florence + the Machine – frontwoman Florence Welch has revealed that one of the record’s tracks is all about NYC punk iconoclast Patti Smith.
“I was quite shy about writing it, ‘cause she’s such a hero of mine, and she seems to be an artist who lives for her work, but also has such a reverence and an understanding that… it is life,” Welch says of the mid-tracklist cut titled Patricia. “She seems very in tune with how to live a good life. She seems to retain this idea that it is the kind of tangible everydayness that is miraculous.”
High As Hope is due out this Friday; keep your eyes peeled for our full feature interview with Florence Welch.
High As Hope is out June 29 via Universal.
