It’s a bloody outrage, it is! Oh, wait, it’s just the name of the latest track from the forthcoming Jimmy Barnes long-player My Criminal Record.
Mind you, it is somewhat of a bloody outrage that the era of car manufacturing in Australia is over, and Shutting Down Our Town reflects this.
Troy Cassar-Daley penned the song after reading Barnesy’s memoirs, specifically about the closure of the Holden factory in his hometown of Elizabeth, South Australia.
Says Barnesy: “I drove through Elizabeth not long after I heard the song, and I felt a pain in my heart for the people there who are battling, trying to make a living when everything is stacked up against them… It’s like the bookend to Working Class Man, but for me it’s the real story.”
As for the song, it’s classic Barnesy belter, complete with all-important whoa-oas in there. It bodes well for My Criminal Record, which releases on May 31.
