Win your first mixing comp at age 16?
Sure, you should be proud, but lots of kids can mix these days.

Was that comp held in 1988?
Oh, okay – you were there back in the golden days. Cool, but so were a lot of people. They’re not doing much now.

Happen to have built your early fanbase into an adoring following and international career over the last 30 years?
I see. You must be DJ Koze.

The German techno/house visionary and Pampa Records label honcho will be taking top slot at next week’s event smalltown, in the first of a meticulously curated series of dance events (currently proposed at two or three each year) by Novel at a brand new event space in Melbourne. Novel Director, Daniel Teuma, says of the intriguing location: “When we initially looked for new spaces, we really wanted something that has never been used before; a large and unique venue to host high quality acts which is located right in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. The B3 underground carpark of Etihad Stadium ticked all the boxes and is simply amazing. We cannot wait to turn that space into something that punters will never forget.”

Joining DJ Koze at the spectacular knees-up will be Belgian techno up-and-comer (and favourite of BBC One’s Pete Tong) Charlotte de Witte, and German house prince and Boiler Room regular Gerd Janson. Get all the details, including ticketing information, at the B3 website.

Smalltown at B3 will be held on Thursday September 27th (Grand Final Public Holiday Eve), at the B3 carpark underneath Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
