‘Tis the season for all sorts of things. One is Christmas songs, and a fave of ours is Fairytale of New York.

Possibly the most bitter and twisted – yet heartfelt – seasonal song ever concocted, there is absolutely no beating the original by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. It’s perfect.

Now that we have that out of the way, here’s a cover by Ed Sheeran and Anne-Marie, featuring backing from Irish folk band Beoga. Like many of the past year’s more interesting covers, it was recorded for the BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge.

So here’s Ed with his rather tiny guitar (either that or he’s a massive, massive man) and his take on the classic, complete with bonus jolly singalong at the end.

Meanwhile, if you’re bugged by a certain PC word change – or just want to listen in wonder to an amazing track – scroll a bit further down this page and behold the wonder of the original.
