People bang on about German synth band Kraftwerk being innovators for a reason – they are. Their influence on music from electronica through to hip-hop and beyond has been profound. As this performance of ‘Spacelab’ attests, they even have fans in space!
They performed the track from their 1978 album The Man-Machine last Friday evening in Stuttgart’s Schlossplatz, but added something a little bit special.
Actually, it was quite a lot special.
A live satellite link-up was made with the International Space Station, in which German astronaut Alexander Gerst played a specially composed duet version of ‘Spacelab’ with Kraftwerk’s Ralf Hütter, before the current touring four-piece let loose on a full version.
It’s pretty cool, and here it is…
