Some 30 years after it was thought gone forever due to legal wrangling, a copy of the video clip for DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince song A Nightmare on My Street has surfaced.

The Will Smith-led cut was originally set to appear on the soundtrack to A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, however minds at Freddy Krueger’s crew New Line were changed. It ended up on the album He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper with a single release scheduled, until New Line’s lawyer types stepped in and basically got a big legal “Nope!” applied to the plans, and the video was ordered to be destroyed.

At least this one copy made it out, even if it does look like it went several rounds with Freddy himself. Sound warbles, video rolls and at one point somebody almost taped Growing Pains right over it. Ah, didn’t you love those VHS days? Not!

Regardless of it looking a bit rubbish, it’s a wonderful time capsule of ’80s silliness that deserves to be preserved. Don’t you agree?
