It’s been 20 years since Ronan Keating left the fuzzy fold of Irish boyband Boyzone to launch his solo career, and now he’s ready to unleash his 11th studio album Twenty Twenty – his first record in four years. In conjunction with its release, Ronan has shared the story behind an arty detail from his latest clip.
The video for single Little Thing Called Love was created by the musician in lockdown, and sees him strolling through a sunlit forest perusing a sort of outdoor gallery: ornate picture frames hang from branches, and depict a series of home videos – these are fan-submitted moments of joy, which Ronan requested from his supporters for use in the heartwarming clip.
Interspersed, we see footage of Ronan’s three-year-old son Cooper at a huge framed canvas, slowly creating a artwork in aerosol pop-art street style, which depicts a rainbow-haloed nurse.
A text slate at the clip’s end offers thanks to the real creator of the work: Ciarán Robinson, AKA Lhouette, a British contemporary painter who finds inspiration in East London’s urban art scene as well as his extended travels to Europe, South America and the Caribbean. The piece is titled Knight Nurse.
Now, Ronan and Lhouette have revealed some more details about the piece and its purpose.
“You might recognise ‘Knight Nurse’ from the ‘Little Thing Called Love’ video,” Keating posted on his Instagram. “It is by the fantastic @lhouette_art and it is now up for auction at Sotheby’s with all proceeds going to @unicef.”
Not long after, Lhouette himself revealed: “The artwork, song and video aim to convey a message of hope and unity during these unprecedented times. Later this summer the original artwork will be included in Sotheby’s online Modern and Post War British Art Auction, with all proceeds raised going to @unicef to support the children whose daily lives have been affected by corona-virus.”
Twenty Twenty is out July 24 via Decca, and features guest spots from Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, Clare Bowen, Emeli Sandé and more. Says Keating of the record: “I’m really honoured, really proud, and I hope you all love it as much as I loved making it.”
