Our headline sounds melancholy as heck, but we can assure you: the new video from New Zealand’s Shapeshifter is an extremely joyous thing.
Shot around several locations in Christchurch, NZ, the clip – directed by Mark Russell – begins with text slates setting the scene of the South Island city’s ongoing issues after the 2011 earthquake. While the 6.3 magnitude event resulted in 185 fatalities, several thousand people injured, and appalling damage to historic buildings and basic utilities, Oculus highlights the creative thrust which bloomed out of the rubble and continues to grow.
Also, the song’s a belter. Watch below.
Shapeshifter are playing two East Coast shows in October: Friday October 26 in Melbourne, and Saturday October 27 in Sydney. Head here for tickets.
