Album cover artwork for SpiritualizedIt’s time to fold up that pill box and take your second dose of spacerock, this time in ballad form; Jason Pierce AKA J. Spaceman AKA the man behind beloved English neo-psychedelic outfit Spiritualized has dropped the second single from the band’s upcoming album Everything Was Beautiful.

The stunning country-soul serenade features back-ups from celebrated outlaw country star Nikki Lane, and is actually a cover of a track Lane herself wrote many years ago; its accompanied by a video directed by Pierce, which is partially inspired by Andy Warhol’s famous short film Kiss.

Crazy sits precisely halfway through the tracklist of Everything Was Beautiful, an album which was recorded across 11 different studios and sees Pierce laying his hands to 16 different instruments.

“There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance it, but going around in circles is important to me,” he’s said of the experience. “Not like you’re spiraling out of control, but you’re going around and around and on each revolution, you hold onto the good each time. Sure, you get mistakes as well, but you hold on to some of those too and that’s how you kind of… achieve. Well, you get there.”

Prep for the album began at the beginning of the pandemic, a period during which Pierce found immense peace, recasting isolation as “beautiful solitude”; “I felt like I’d been in training for this my whole life,” he adds.
