Next year’s Hottest 100 countdown will take place January 27, with the Hottest 200 (200-101) the following day.
The move comes as a result of a survey conducted by the station following the debate surrounding Australia Day as a whole.
Now dubbed the Hottest 100 Weekend, the top 100 countdown will take place Saturday January 27, with the Hottest 200 on the 28th.
Wondering what will be happening on the 26th instead?
“[We’ll be] highlighting the diversity of Australia. We’ll be broadcasting a bunch of special programming that covers some of the day’s biggest events, like the Young Australian of the Year, citizenship ceremonies, the Australia vs England One Day Series, Yabun Festival, and much more. Plus, we’ll be spinning nothing but homegrown music all day long, including the best live Australian music. This way, both the Hottest 100 and Australia Day get the coverage they deserve as separate events.”
Voting for the 2018 Triple J Hottest 100 opens Dec 12 and closes Jan 22, so chuck the Js on next time you’re in the car and start your shortlist now – you’re gonna need all the prep you can get. Get your mates to vote, too, to avoid those nasty “ya joking shoulda been higher”s.
The triple j website has everything you need to know about why the date was changed – including the results from the poll.
As a reminder – last year Flume and Kai took out the top spot with Never Be Like You (and QLDer/Darling Amy Shark came in at #2 with Adore):
