If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? Whether it does or not, The Waifs return with “skin as thick as ironbark” for their 25th anniversary album and there’ll certainly be some noise when it drops.
There is something mystical about listening to the organic twangs and harmonic shrills of these folk-country masters as their music sinks its roots deep down into your soul. As the group pushes through mid-life turmoil and geographical distance, they continue to emote meaning through music perfectly, making even a poor soul sitting on their own couch feel homesick.
Ironbark is out February 24 via Jarrah Record/MGM.
